Her parents are Harvey Welker, a Native American Father and Julie Welker, an African American mother. Her mother works as an agent and her father works as a civil engineer. Walker was educated in the Germantown Friends School located in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood, graduating in 1994. When she graduated of Harvard College in 1998, she attended Harvard College and earned her Bachelor of Arts.
